OgmaProtect is made by Wireless Connect Ltd. — a Dublin-based network engineering company. We design, deploy and operate networks for a living; this is the firewall management plane we always wanted to hand our own customers.
Why OpenBSD
OpenBSD has the strongest default-security reputation of any general-purpose operating system, and the network stack to back it: PF, CARP, pfsync, Unbound and WireGuard live in or beside the base system, engineered by people who prize correctness. Most firewall products bolt a management layer onto Linux and carry the whole weight of that ecosystem with them.
OgmaProtect takes the opposite bet: a small, disciplined management plane on top of the most carefully audited base system available — using OpenBSD's own security primitives (pledge, unveil, privilege separation) not just underneath the product but as the product's architecture. The security page shows exactly what that means.
The name and the mark
Ogma is the Irish god of eloquence — and, in myth, the inventor of Ogham, the earliest Irish script: an alphabet of strokes cut along the edge of standing stones, read from the bottom up.
Our mark is the word “OGMA” written in authentic Ogham letterforms — Onn, Gort, Muin, Ailm on a single stemline. We liked the fit: an Irish product, a script built from precise strokes on a hard edge, made to still say something true a thousand years later.
Principles
- Your router is yours. No phone-home, no telemetry, no cloud dependency — the product is fully functional on an isolated network.
- Honesty over polish. Early access means early access; the roadmap page says what's real, and every claim on this site is tied to evidence in the repository.
- Fail closed. When something is wrong, the safe state wins — the product refuses configurations that would lock you out and reverts changes you can't confirm.
- Small businesses ride free. The license makes the full product free for qualifying small companies — not a cut-down tier, the product.
